Eurocode 3
EN 1993-1-1 — Design of Steel Structures
Eurocode 3 (EN 1993) is the European standard for the design of steel structures. CalcSteel implements EN 1993-1-1 for general rules and rules for buildings.
Cross-section Classification
Eurocode classifies cross-sections into 4 classes based on local buckling susceptibility. Class 1-2 can develop full plastic capacity, Class 3 is limited to elastic, and Class 4 requires effective section properties.
Buckling Verification
Member buckling is checked using buckling curves (a0, a, b, c, d) with the chi reduction factor. Lateral-torsional buckling uses the general method or specific curves depending on cross-section type.
