Analysis
CalcSteel performs first-order linear elastic analysis using the direct stiffness method. After solving, you can visualize internal forces, reactions, and design verification results.
Running the Analysis
Click the Calculate button in the toolbar. The model is validated (checking for instabilities, unconnected bars, missing supports), then solved for all load combinations. Results appear as interactive diagrams on the 3D model.
Model Validation
Before solving, CalcSteel checks your model for common issues: disconnected bars, insufficient supports, zero-length bars, and unstable configurations. If any issue is found, a clear error message explains what to fix.
Analysis Method
The direct stiffness method assembles the global stiffness matrix from all bar elements, applies boundary conditions (supports), and solves the system of equations for each load combination. The result is nodal displacements, from which internal forces are derived.
