AISC — Wide Flange (I-beam)
Wide flange beams (W shapes / I-beams) are the most common structural steel profile used in building construction. They are used for beams, columns, and girders in steel-framed buildings and bridges. Designed per AISC 360, Eurocode 3, and NBR 8800.
The W840x226 steel profile weighs 226.0 kg/m (151.87 lb/ft), has a depth of 851 mm (33.50 in), flange width 294 mm (11.57 in). Cross-sectional area: 28,652.1 mm². Moment of inertia Ix = 336,622.6 cm⁴, Iy = 11,420.85 cm⁴.
