AISC — Wide Flange (I-beam)
Wide flange beams (W shapes / I-beams) are the most common structural steel profile used in building construction. They are used for beams, columns, and girders in steel-framed buildings and bridges. Designed per AISC 360, Eurocode 3, and NBR 8800.
The W840x176 steel profile weighs 176.0 kg/m (118.27 lb/ft), has a depth of 835 mm (32.87 in), flange width 292 mm (11.50 in). Cross-sectional area: 22,142.8 mm². Moment of inertia Ix = 242,038.92 cm⁴, Iy = 7,819.32 cm⁴.
