AISC — Wide Flange (I-beam)
Wide flange beams (W shapes / I-beams) are the most common structural steel profile used in building construction. They are used for beams, columns, and girders in steel-framed buildings and bridges. Designed per AISC 360, Eurocode 3, and NBR 8800.
The W310x97 steel profile weighs 97.0 kg/m (65.18 lb/ft), has a depth of 308 mm (12.13 in), flange width 305 mm (12.01 in). Cross-sectional area: 12,138.3 mm². Moment of inertia Ix = 21,882.44 cm⁴, Iy = 7,284.55 cm⁴.
