AISC — Wide Flange (I-beam)
Wide flange beams (W shapes / I-beams) are the most common structural steel profile used in building construction. They are used for beams, columns, and girders in steel-framed buildings and bridges. Designed per AISC 360, Eurocode 3, and NBR 8800.
The W310x52 steel profile weighs 52.0 kg/m (34.94 lb/ft), has a depth of 317 mm (12.48 in), flange width 167 mm (6.57 in). Cross-sectional area: 6,617.4 mm². Moment of inertia Ix = 11,733.34 cm⁴, Iy = 1,025.7 cm⁴.
